About Me

A little about me. I am a happily married stay at home mom. My husband and I have been married for 15 wonderful years. Prior to becoming a mom, I worked as a visual designer, but I always knew once we had children that I would want to stay at home. When I have time, I enjoy reading, baking, crafts, and have a little obsession with the weather. I am also a big couponer, garage saler, and love getting a deal!

Eight years ago, we were blessed with our first child, a son named Jacob. We aways knew that Jacob was different, unique, and special. He was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and Anxiety at the age of six. He also has obsessive compulsive thoughts, and sensory processing disorder which fall under the Asperger's diagnosis. His diagnosis was not a shock to us as we had suspected that for many years. In many ways Jacob is your typical little boy. He loves sports, playing video games, drawing, and being silly. Like most kids with Asperger's he has obsessions. His have typically revolved around animals, with his favorites over the years being cows, bison, and elephants. He also has a huge love for baseball, especially our local major league team. We are so thankful he is able to play on an organized team with his peers. Jacob is an incredibly smart kid. He started reading on his own at the age of three! Since he was our first child, we didn't realize how remarkable some of the things he was doing were until we had our second.  He amazes us daily by the things he knows and remembers. We are very grateful that despite having Asperger's, Jacob is quite social and affectionate. With a captive audience, he will talk forever about animals or baseall. The biggest challenges we face are his resistance to change and new situations, and also sensory issues with sound and motion. You can read more on our journey to a diagnosis here .

Three years ago we added to our family a baby girl. She has been such a joy to our family. It is always interesting to me to see the differences between boys and girls. She is very much a girly girl at the age of three. She likes to dress pretty, play baby dolls, and adores her older brother.

  2. I am also a mother of a child with Asperger Syndrome, with some OCD, ADHD and SPD thrown in for "good measure." I look forward to reading your blog (I have a lot to catch up on!) and I know that I will identify with a lot of it.

    1. Thanks so much for finding my blog! Your child sounds very much like my son. Jacob has Aspergers, OCD, ADHD, and SPD as well. Feel free to message me anytime if you feel like chatting about something.
